JOB STATUS: Fixed-term appointments (3 year duration)
SALARY PER ANNUM: In the region of £29,000 for the Project Manager and Developer roles and £37,000 for the Senior Software Developer role (post-doctoral position based at Oxford)
JOB DETAILS:
This is a unique opportunity to join a consortium project team to support the delivery of an exciting NERC-funded project, eMonocot, which aims to change the taxonomic process and the mechanisms by which biodiversity information is delivered. RBG Kew is the lead research organisation, Oxford University and the Natural History Museum in London are the other consortium members. The overarching objective of eMonocot is to produce a web-based treatment of all monocot plants, targeted at biodiversity and environmental scientists, but available to a range of users including volunteer biologists, the general public and schools.
As part of the project team, you will work closely with monocot taxonomists at Kew and elsewhere, content developers and IT specialists at Kew, Oxford University and the Natural History Museum. You will also interact with a broad spectrum of other stakeholders, promoting communication, employing flexible thinking and taking responsibility for timely delivery of project targets.
Displaying a strong interest in biodiversity, conservation and taxonomy, you will have academic qualifications and IT skills appropriate to each post. For all positions a recognised qualification in computer science 0r biodiversity informatics 0r the equivalent work-based experience is required. You will be expected to have proven experience in the creation, support and maintenance of software systems as well as experience of procedural and object-oriented programming techniques.
In addition, you will be able to work effectively both as a team player and independently, and show initiative in solving complex problems with diligence and attention to detail. You will possess good interpersonal skills and be a confident communicator who is ready to help the eMonocot team to make a significant contribution to the exciting new discipline of biodiversity informatics.
