Expert-in-Training programme: Looking for trainers

The first grants for the EDIT (European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy) Expert-in-training programme have been awarded (http://www.e-taxonomy.eu/node/415) in 2008. During this first call, EDIT offered 21 taxonomy trainings in 9 EDIT institutions.

The main objective of the EDIT Expert-in-training programme is to give the opportunity to MSc & PhD students and early career researchers to acquire and/or to strengthen research skills through on-the-job training. Detailed information on the 1st call programme can be found here.

We are now preparing the second call, which will be announced in May 2009. It is our ultimate goal to offer an outstanding choice of training programmes to the trainees. Hence, in the second call EDIT wants:

  1. to involve more EDIT institutions in the training offer
  2. to involve also non-EDIT European institutions in the training offer
  3. to open the grants to EDIT and non-EDIT trainees (affiliated with a European university or research institute).

This way EDIT will give a cogent visibility to the European taxonomy training potential and will promote your training course!

If you are interested to join this Expert-in-training programme by offering short trainings, please provide us with:

  • brief description of the training-on-the job
  • duration of training (one week up to max. one month)
  • type of training
  • contact information of mentor

A template to fill in your information can be found in here.

It is important that your proposal is a training on-the-job and that the trainee is coached by a mentor (expert). The training can be supported by lectures.

The grant will cover travel, subsistence for the trainee and training related costs for the institution (bench fee or subscription fee).

We would prefer to receive your feedback the latest by 15 April. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you in advance!
