Expert Training 22

Information about training programme

  • Title of training: TTraining programme in Crustacean systematics with specialisation in Cyclopidae (Copepoda)
    Research projects:

    1. Taxonomy and phylogeny of the genus Cyclops O.F. Müller
    2. Review of the cyclopid fauna of Vietnam – beyond these topics I can also help in systematic studies on any other group of Cyclopidae.
  • Description of project: Cyclopidae is the most speciose (ca 850 spp), predominantly freshwater copepod family that invaded all continents and can be encountered in the most various waterbodies and semiterrestrial habitats. Cyclopids are small (0.5-3.0 mm) crustaceans, most of them are omnivorous. Some groups are successfully applied in the biological control of larvae of the disease vector mosquitoes (control of dengue vector Aedes aegypti in Vietnam). Cyclopids can be intermediate host of several nematode and cestode parasites (e.g. guineaworm, and fish tapeworm). Other groups (e.g. Cyclops) are used as model organisms in several fields of biology (molecular ecology, and genome evolution in Copepoda).
  • Duration of training: 4 weeks
